Newcastle United FC, (NUFC), was founded in 1892, with the merger of Newcastle West End and Newcastle East End, and has played ever since at its current home ground, St James' Park, recently renamed to the 'Sports Direct Arena', to the dismay and anger of the fans.
As with all areas of the country that have two or more local football clubs at near quarters, there is a fierce local rivalry, in Newcastle's case it's with the local town of Sunderland. The two clubs have engaged in what has become know as the 'Tyne-Wear Derby', since 1883.
Newcastle United earned the nick name of the Magpies due to the traditional kit colours of black and white striped shirts, black shorts and black socks.
